The dry eye treatment algorithm described in the TFOS DEWS II Report acknowledges that most dry eye patients have meibomian gland dysfunction and further acknowledges that first line treatment should be advice about dry eye management. This should include advice about dietary supplementation with omega-3 rich fatty acids and advice on lid hygiene including the regular use of effective warm compresses such as the EyeBag®.
